SoDu Familyless Families!

The purpose of our co-op is to develop a network of support for families in the South Durham area by helping share the demands of childcare. Our group is unique in that all of us are without any other family in the area. Most of us are not from this area originally and find ourselves strained with the cost of hiring a sitter just to run a few errands or go out once in a while. All members of this group are expected to both request and offer childcare as it will only be successful if we all participate.

This particular group is for families who do not have any other family members within an hour’s drive. Please respect this requirement as it is intended to support those without help from family nearby.

You must live in South Durham. Exceptions will be made for families living in Chapel Hill Chapel Hill east of S. Estes Drive or Meadowmont on the border of Durham.

In order to start participating, you must review and agree to the co-op policies.

At this time, we will start with 10 families. The maximum number of families who can participate is 15 families at this time. *Once the group is established, we can revisit this and decide if we want to increase or decrease the number of families allowed in the co-op.

If at least 25 families would like to join, we can discuss breaking it into more than one group based on need, ages of children and geographical area.

NOTE: THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO THOSE APPLYING AS THE "FOUNDING FAMILIES" BUT TO NEW FAMILIES ONCE THE GROUP IS ESTABLISHED:
For the safety of the children in the group, in order to join, you need to be “sponsored” by a current member in good standing with active points. This means either a family recommends you or agrees to meet with you face to face prior to you being approved. Members can sponsor up to 2 new families each year. All new members must offer their services within three months in order to continue to participate in the group.
